In this role you will have the opportunity to join an early stage, highly funded biotechnology research company. The role will support research and development in novel microbial systems pursued through the analysis of biological communities and modification of microbial strains to address insect vector borne plant disease and/or human diseases. This position will be hired at Research Scientist or Senior Research Scientist level depending on experience.

What is required in this role:

  • Ph.D. in Immunology or related field with a focus on invertebrate innate immunity.
  • Strong immunological foundation with knowledge and background in molecular innate immunity with a focus on insects and their response to pathogens, viral, bacterial and parasitic. In particular with the following: RNAi, Imd, Toll, Jak-STAT and the autophagy pathways.
  • Experience in using diverse approaches such as molecular biology, multi -omics,  insect handling, microbiology and cellular biology with an immunological focus in order to be able to understand the molecular mechanisms associated with insect vectors, their microbiome and pathogens and the reactions the latter two confer to their vectors.
  • Demonstrable proficiency in cutting edge techniques related to immunology, including but not limited to skills in protein biochemistry, receptor-ligand interactions, cell signaling, bioinformatics, genetic manipulations, confocal microscopy.
